I paid a very little amount per night for this hotel because I wanted the adventure of being in the old part of Downtown Las Vegas. I was amazed when I arrived and saw that the hotel actually looked very clean and updated. When I checked in, I was told they were short on rooms in the tower so they upgraded me to their Cabana rooms across the street. I was a little hesitant at first, but when I want over there I could not believe it. First of all there is 24 hour security and a doorman. The lobby is completely new with black and white marble tile, a plush couch in front of a large flat screen tv. Complimentary fruit, newspaper, and exercise area as well. The rooms are small, but are redone with the latest conveniences like a 50" flat screen TV on the wall, I-pod charging deck/alarm clocks, and the bathroom was gorgeous! If you are a Gambler, they do have a nice little casino in the main building and the slots were pretty loose. Also to consider that the hotel is located within a 5 minute walk to the Freemont Street Experience as well as the Deuce busline that will take you to the strip. The hotel also has a complimentary shuttle to take you back to the airport. I would gladly stay at this hotel again even if the price was considerably more.

I am not sure what the price is as you are reading this review; nonetheless, I read the reviews beforee I visited it and decided to give it a try. I was thoroughly satisfied with it. I enjoyed the 7.96 prime rib dinner, the free valet parking, clean spacious room and courteous staff. The only thing I would day that they can improve is the slow draining facebowl in my room and the fact that I had to call to get an iron and ironing board sent to my room (u have to request it as opposed to having it in the room automatically).

We stayed at the Cabana Room and we absolutely loved it. The decor, ambience, really felt modern and upscale, yet we didn't break the bank to stay here (we broke the bank at the casinos but that's a whole other review). The Cabana side has a lobby, a gym, separate parking, and best of all 24-hour security. It more than makes up for the neighborhood, which is a bit sketchy. The only blemish was that room service neglected our room after the first night.

I got a killer deal on this room, so because of that I can't be too negative about it. The hotel is nice enough -- it's definitely "old Vegas" in both clientele and smell. We originally had a Pavillion room, but I didn't think I could sleep four nights in that small, old room so we upgraded to a Tower room. The Pavillion room had a broken bathroom light, a half smashed alarm clock, and a questionable bathroom. While the Tower room was bigger and didn't have the outdoor entry, it still wasn't as clean and updated as I would have thought or expected. Still, it had a lovely view of the strip and the sitting area was comfortable. The air conditioner worked well and the bed was comfortable. My main annoyance was the thinness of the walls. I could hear people coming in and out all night, even if they weren't being loud at all. I could hear the neighbor's television and hear them talking in the room. I had to buy ear plugs because the sounds were such a sleep interrupter. All in all, it was a decent room for a great price. It's very convenient to Fremont Street and the surrounding nightlife. The rooms definitely show their age and unless you plan on passing out drunk every night (or are a deep sleeper), it might be a little too noisy for a peaceful sleep. Oh, and both of our rooms had weak locks. The Pavillion room wouldn't even close all the way and the Tower room was a bit shaky.

We stayed on a SupEr ChEap special and they upgraded us due to none of the cheap rooms being left. That was nice. The only problem was that the maids left no towels or soap in the room. We had to call for stuff to be brought up, so not a big deal. We also got "fun books" with coupons for free drinks, casino play and a meal. All this for less than 2 specialty drinks at Starbucks. The El Cortez is an older building, and is not insulated well, so its only downfall is the noise from other guests can be a bit more than you are used to in other hotels. The location is really good, one block from the Fremont Experience. If you stay IN FREMONT it can be noisy. No, downtown is not as "clean" as the strip, but its much more real and to me a better place to stay.

You get what you pay for. Outside doors are on the rooms over the parking garage on 5th floor. The neighbor across the hall had his door open all night which was strange. Luckily the hot water did not work in the shower so the second day we received a free upgrade for the remainder of our stay to a room with a king bed and a sectional couch, two closets and an overflow room. The upgraded rooms had inside doors, but there was no elevator to get to them and we were on the 3rd floor. Call ahead to to check the details of the room before you pay and end up over in "the hood" is how I described the rooms above the parking garage. I must admit, after we upgraded, my family felt safer and we had no problems otherwise. Hope this helps

Friendly and helpful staff. Room is clean and comfortable. I repeatedly stay at this hotel. In fact, I am going there again this week. Review of environmental aspects: They use the small bottles that use a lot of packaging instead of bulk dispensers for their bathroom amenities (shower, shampoo, soap). Their towel service is by request: if the towel is thrown on the floor, they change the towel, otherwise they don't change it. They used compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs). Environmental rating: 2 out of 5

The El Cortez is a renovated piece of Downtown Las Vegas history. The room was large, quiet and clean. Two problems. The service people at the front desk were efficent, but impolite. They gave you the impression you were intruding on their time. A bigger problem was that my room window opened with a beautiful view of the roof, which was littered with debris. Room was clean and lovely and we were just minutes from the strip. Only complaint would be the unexpected $50.00 hold charge on my credit card even though the rooms were paid in full weeks before our arrival. I liked the location seems how I wasn't sure exactly where it was, but to my surprise we were right next to many attractions so we didn't spend much time on the strip. We stayed in a room right above the car garage which I liked, you had to have a room key to access the floor we were on and when you stepped out of the elevator you where outside which had to grow on me, mostly because in was 108+ degrees out side but the view we saw as we walked to and from our room was worth it. I wished they had a pool, but they had a great little cafe we loved you got a ton of food for a great price. The black jack dealers were great , very friendly. Overall we had a wonderful stay and will more than likely stay here again.
